Rating: 4 out of 5.

I love books set in Jane Austen’s world, and if it features a fiery woman that can’t hold her tongue, or her actions, when she encounters cruelty or stupid people, I’m all in.

Flora is Mr. Darcy’s niece and lives in Scotland with her family. When she can’t help but insult the wealthy and powerful man her family wants her to marry, she’s shipped off to England to stay at Pemberley to learn how to be a lady. She’s waylaid at her cousin’s house, Courtney Castle, where she is reacquainted with Daniel Kincaid, who witnessed the outburst in Scotland that precipitated her journey to Pemberley. Flora wants independence and Daniel wants a genteel lady to share his life with, but we all know neither one is getting that, right?

I loved Flora’s fiery nature and felt a kinship with her inability to suffer fools. Try as she might, and she really does, she just can’t stand by when she doesn’t agree with what’s going on. This inability to reign herself in gets her into a lot of trouble but also makes her the most interesting woman in the room. It took me awhile to warm up to Daniel, but there’s something to be said for steadiness and hard work, and he won me over.

This is the seventh book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from Zooloos Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
