Among Thieves by M.J. Kuhn

This is a pretty good YA Fantasy that promises to turn into a fun, exciting series.

Ryia is known as “The Butcher” of Carrowick, a dockside city run by various gangs. Ryia is on the run from the powerful Guildmaster, the ruler of 5 kingdoms of Thamorr. Certain people are born with a gift for strength, speed, mind reading, sensing and other gifts and are called Adepts. They are taken by the Guildmaster as a baby and trained on an island. When they reach adulthood they are stripped of all identity and are sold to rich people as obedient servants who have no mind or will of their own.

Paper & Blood (Ink & Sigil #2) by Kevin Hearne

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Another great book in Hearne’s new spinoff of the Iron Druid Chronicles series. This book has Al, Buck, Nadia, an Australian apprentice sigil agent and the Iron Druid tracking down the apprentice’s missing mentor and another sigil agent in the Australian Outback. Once they track the general location where the sigil agents went missing, they quickly run into some very strange monsters that are determined to eat and kill their way through everyone they face.

Capture the Crown (A Gargoyle Queen, #1) by Jennifer Estep

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I loved this first book in a new YA Fantasy trilogy set in the same world as the author’s Crown of Shards books. Here, we meet Princess Gemma Ripley, whose frivolous reputation hides her secret identity as a spy, and her skills as a powerful mind magier.

Curse of the Specter Queen (Samantha Knox #1) by Jenny Elder Moke

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This was a pretty good YA Fantasy book. There is also a mix of Historical Fiction and Mystery/Thriller in the book, so it’s a bit hard to categorize. There is plenty of action, elements of mythology and magic, with a touch of romance thrown in. It’s quite a mish mash.
