This is a very cute Regency romcom book Austenesque book telling the tale of Emmeline and Simon. Emmeline is a gothic author that prints in secret under a different name. Simon is the one that got away without any explanation. He returns to find a crumbling estate on the verge of bankruptcy and young siblings that need caring for. Simon’s siblings are strong-willed and opinionated and add much depth and humor to the story. His youngest sister Sofia and her pet frog Blast in particular are a hoot.

Despite their immediate connection and chemistry, the couple realize that they can’t be together. Despite having the potential to be a love connection, Emmeline can’t provide Simon with the financial means to rescue his estate and care for his family. So, she does the next best thing, acts as his “wing man” to help him find a bride that will make him a good match and provide a happy life. Best laid plans, right?

This is a clean romance with plenty of heart. It’s an entertaining read, and the narrators do a great job portraying the humor, chemistry, and warmth of the story.

I received a complimentary audio of this book from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio. All opinions are my own.
