Embers of Fate (Hearts of Valine #1) by Dani Loughary

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romantasy debut about a young queen, Gwen, and the commoner guard, Tyreal, who has sworn to protect her with his life. Gwen and Tyreal have known each other since they were children and though unspoken, have loved each other from the beginning. That love is forbidden, however, because tradition dictates that she must marry a fellow royal.

My Secret Book Boyfriend (Rough and Ready #2) by Kate Perry

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is the second book in the Rough and Ready book series but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the first book, but there is enough backstory that I didn’t feel lost.

This book was a delight to read. I found myself smiling, laughing, and sighing the entire time. Andrew is the PERFECT book boyfriend. Hot, supportive, thoughtful, sweet, hot, great banter… did I mention hot? The instant spark between Andrew and Zoe jumped off the page. You could see it with every smile and glance between the pair. Andrew supported and encouraged Zoe to follow her dreams and the thoughtful gestures he makes to let Zoe know the depth of his feelings was completely swoon-worthy.

This is a fun and flirty close proximity revenge romcom with a bad boy hero who falls first while he helps her get even.

The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this quick and easy contemporary read. Annie and Amanda are best friends with big plans to take L.A. by storm and become famous actresses. Their relationship is amazing. They just get each other. Their inside jokes and short cuts are the epitome of friends that have known each other most of their lives. Amanda loves Annie, but Annie is in love with Amanda. Not that she’s been brave enough to tell her, of course. When a tragedy occurs Annie flees town on her own and assumes a new identity as Cass.
