Striking Range (Timber Creek K-9 Mystery, #7) by Margaret Mizushima

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is another good book in this K-9 Mystery series. Just when Deputy Mattie is poised to question the man she thinks murdered her father, he’s discovered dead in his jail cell. Mattie finds a map of Timber Creek in his cell marked with Xs in several spots on the mountains. She and San Diego cold case detective Jim Hauck head back to Timber Creek to investigate.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a soapy contemporary mystery/thriller set in an exclusive, wealthy neighborhood in the Bay Area. Mystery writer Brooke is married to Jack, her older billionaire tech mogul husband. He is overly protective of Brooke and very private. Brooke is very submissive and pretty much does everything Jack tells her to do to keep up appearances of their “perfect” marriage.

Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a good, fast-paced mystery/thriller set in a small town in British Columbia. The Cold Creek Highway stretches 500 miles through small towns and isolated wilderness in B.C. For decades young women traveling the road alone have gone missing. Some bodies turn up, some don’t. The killer, or killers, have never been arrested.

The Therapist by B.A. Paris

Rating: 3 out of 5.

3.5 stars

This was a good, quick Mystery/Thriller read. Alice and Leo move into a house in a gated community called The Circle. They think they’ve moved into the home of their dreams, but Alice quickly realizes that’s not the case. Two years before, therapist Nina was killed in the house, allegedly by her husband. Alice starts digging into the murder, convinced the husband didn’t kill his wife.

Loch Down Abbey by Beth Cowan

This is a fun Historical Fiction Cozy Mystery that is a quick and easy read. Set in Scotland in the 1930’s while a mysterious illness is spreading through the country, the Inverkillen family and their servants are dealt a terrible blow when Lord Inverkillen, Earl and head of the family, is found dead in mysterious circumstances.

Death with a Double Edge (Daniel Pitt #4) by Anne Perry

Rating: 4 out of 5.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I really enjoy this author’s work and this book series, but this is my least favorite book in the series so far. I didn’t find the mystery as compelling as in past books, and there seemed to be a lot of filler and repetitiveness to the story.

The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a good contemporary mystery/thriller involving the relationship between twin sisters, one who seems to have it all, and the other with apparent mental health issues that needs to be cared for and sheltered.

An Extravagant Death (Charles Lenox Mysteries, #11) by Charles Finch

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is the eleventh book in this series, but it’s the first one that I’ve read. Despite that, I didn’t have a hard time understanding what was going on. The mystery is a stand-alone and there is enough backstory throughout the book for me to get an understanding of the main characters.
