Pierce Her (Come for Me #1) by Kelly Finley

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a really good contemporary romance suspense book. Charlie Ravenel served in the military and was injured in combat. She now works for an elite company that provides bodyguard services for high profile clients. Charlie is assigned to protect a young actress working on a popular television series. The actress is receiving threatening notes and it’s unknown if the perpetrator works on the set or is an outside threat.

A Kingdom of Flame and Fury (The Four Kingdoms #1) by Whitney Dean

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This was a pretty good dark fantasy romance book, but I’m a bit conflicted about it. There are things that I really liked about it, and other things that I really did not. At 10 years old, orphan Raven was deemed the heir of Seolia, a kingdom within the Four Kingdoms. At the beginning of the book, Raven has been ruling for fifteen years. Despite doing a good job, she still feels that she didn’t earn the right to rule, and is hiding the fact that she possesses dark magic -something everyone in the kingdom believes no longer exists.

Local Girl Missing (Detective Josie Quinn #15) by Lisa Regan

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a really good contemporary mystery/thriller set in a small town in Pennsylvania. Det. Josie Quinn and her husband Noah are driving home on a winding mountain road. As they are about to pull over on the shoulder due to dense fog, a young girl dashes across the road in front of them and into the woods. The duo get out of the car to investigate and find another car pulled over. As they approach, they see a man standing over another young girl strangling her. Josie gives chase but he gets away. The young girl in the car, Dina, is dead, but Josie and Noah have hope that the other girl, Alison, is alive.

Hiding Forever (The Forever Series, vol. 7) by Tara Gallina

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a cute contemporary romance that is a quick and easy read. Nova and Riley are both hiding from something. Riley left witness protection and is still laying low from an east coast mafia and Nova was just dumped by an A-list pop star. They seek solace at Nova’s grandmother Gigi’s house. Both are nursing heartache and the last thing they are thinking about is getting into a new relationship. So of course, when they meet again (they met when they were much younger), the sparks fly.

Accomplished: A Georgie Darcy Novel by Amanda Quain

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a cute YA contemporary retelling of Pride & Prejudice. Georgiana Darcy is a Junior at an elite prep school in upstate New York. She suffered an “Incident” with Wickham Foster at the end of her sophomore year that would have cost anyone else besides a Darcy expulsion. But, with her brother living back in New York near her and suffocating her with rules and oversight, Georgie needs to figure out a way to forget Wickham, win back her prep school and make her brother relax and realize she can take care of herself.

Booked on a Feeling by Jayci Lee

This was a cute contemporary romantic comedy set in a small town north of Los Angeles. Lizzy Chung is an overachiever. She’s an attorney at a high powered law firm on the partner track. But when she faints during her opening statement, she realizes she needs a break. She goes back to the small town where she spent her summers with her best friend Jack to unwind and figure out what went wrong.

Master of Furies (The Firemane Saga #3) by Raymond Feist

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a great conclusion to this series, and sets the scene nicely for what I hope will be a new series with some of these characters. This book picks up right after the events of the second book.

Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is yet another great book by Hillier. This book is a bit different from her other books, and not nearly as creepy. That doesn’t mean it is bad – it’s just different than expected.
