A Dash of Salt and Pepper by Kosoko Jackson

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a cute LGBT contemporary romance set in a small town in Maine. Xavier has been dumped and passed over for a prestigious fellowship. He slinks home to lick his wounds, but his family have other ideas. Trying to get him out of his funk, Xavier’s mother presses him to work as a prep chef at a trendy new restaurant in town owned and operated by hot dad Logan. Logan doesn’t want to hire Xavier, but he needs the help. The duo find they have an unexpected connection, but since they both want different things in life, their relationship may be doomed before it really starts.

Rise of a Dark Throne: The Mosa Chronicles by Ligia N. Cushman

This is a promising first book in a fantasy series. Sole is a princess that survives a tragedy in her land called the Darkness which kills her parents and new husband. Her two sisters are nowhere to be found and Sole finds herself the Queen of Mosa. As she works tirelessly to pull her country out of the tragedy, she is summoned to heal the King of Sundom, the land her people fled to avoid being killed by the evil King.

Well Traveled (Well Met #4) by Jen DeLuca

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a super cute contemporary romance involving a high-powered corporate attorney and a Renaissance Faire Irish kilt-wearing man. Louisa, “Lulu” to her cousin, is out of town for work. Completely stressed out, she discovers a Renaissance Faire is taking place nearby and goes there for an escape. While there, she runs into a band that she met earlier that summer while attending a faire with her cousin. When events take a drastic turn, Louisa finds herself unemployed and running away with the faire for the summer.

Built to Last by Erin Hahn

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a super cute second chance contemporary romance book. Shelby, Lyle and Cameron were child stars on a hit show. Cameron and Shelby had instant chemistry, but when they became young adults circumstances led Cameron to leave the show, go to college and start a career creating National Geographic documentaries all over the world. Shelby fell into a relationship with Lyle, which ended publicly, and messily. Shelby left her acting career and went home to Michigan. She worked with her father in his contracting business and became a master furniture restorer. Every time Shelby needed Cameron, he dropped everything and came running. But, he never stayed.

Wrapped in Winter (Three Kings Duet Book 1) by Penny Asher-Darke

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a fun and steamy romance book that is a quick and easy read. Winter Harris was fired from her management job at a prestigious hotel in Aspen and was forced to take a demotion and work at a lower tiered hotel in Vail. Fighting to work her way back to management and impress her annoying boss, she is tasked to work as a VIP manager for three mystery guests at the hotel’s most exclusive cabin. She meets the men who are all gorgeous, powerful businessmen. Winter is instantly attracted to all three men, and finds it difficult to remain professional.

Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble (Winner Bakes All #2) by Alexis Hall

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a cute and fun LGTBQ+ contemporary romance. Paris is a hot mess. He’s got a cat, a degree, a roommate and a love for baking. But, his constant self-doubt and second-guessing have left him a hot mess. His roommate enters him into the country’s biggest baking competition (think The Great British Bake Off) and he’s excited and nauseas at the same time, thinking he’ll be the first one sent home. To his surprise, he wins the first challenge, despite hitting a fellow contestant, Tariq, in the face with his refrigerator door. But, the public scrutiny is harsh, interacting with the fellow contestants is nerve-wracking, and Paris spirals.

The Wicked Remain (Grimrose Girls #2) by Laura Pohl

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a satisfying conclusion to a good YA Fantasy duology. The events pick up a few months after the first book. The girls continue to search for a way to break the curse, but are waylaid by personal issues that distract them from their goal. As they make progress on finding out the origin of the curse, more girls start dying.

Blue Shadows Fall (Blue Shadows Fall, #1) by Lenore Stutznegger

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very good first book in a new YA Fantasy series. In a dystopian world decades in the future, Blue Haven is a 17 year old who dreams of becoming a warrior. Over 150 years ago the Shadow Elves, humans infected by a zombie apocalypse-like plague, ravaged the world and decimated the population. Blue lives in a small farming community in the Smoky Mountains, where they are the last survivors of their world and not much happens. But Blue’s superhuman sight is showing her troubling images of green-eyed strangers and handsome Shadow Elves. But, that can’t be right because leaders of her village insist the Shadow Elves were all killed and they are safe. As Blue investigates her visions, she discovers the leaders may have lied. About everything.
