And in the End: The Last Days of The Beatles by Ken McNab

and in the end

4 stars

This was a fascinating non-fiction book about the last year or two that the Beatles were officially a band. It focuses on the business fights regarding band managers, royalties and control of Paul and John’s original songs, as well as the philosophical differences of the band members. The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale #2) by Margaret Atwood

The testaments

3 stars

I was really looking forward to reading this follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, but I sadly have to agree with a lot of reviewers that felt this book was not necessary. There were certainly sparks of greatness in this book, unfortunately just not enough of them. Continue reading “The Testaments (The Handmaid’s Tale #2) by Margaret Atwood”

Marie Antoinette’s World: Intrigue, Infidelity, and Adultery in Versailles by Will Bashor

marie antoinette

3 stars

This was an interesting nonfiction book about life in the Court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. I learned quite a bit about her life, her behavior and the pressures she was under as a young Queen. Before reading this book, I’ll admit that I had a pretty harsh opinion of Marie Antoinette. While I still think she was a terrible queen, I do have a bit more empathy for what she went through in her short life. Take a Hint, Dani Brown (The Brown Sisters #2) by Talia Hibbert

take a hint, dani brown

4 stars (release date June 23, 2020)

This is the second book in The Brown Sisters series (but it can be read as a stand-alone) and it is another fun, flirty, sexy contemporary romance book by Talia Hibbert. I love her writing, and the Brown sisters are fierce women that you want as your friend. Continue reading “Take a Hint, Dani Brown (The Brown Sisters #2) by Talia Hibbert”

Rebel Spy by Veronica Rossi

This is an ok historical fiction about the mysterious Agent 355 – the famous “lady” spy who passes information to George Washington’s Culper spy ring. Continue reading “Rebel Spy by Veronica Rossi”

Broken Veil (Harbinger #5) by Jeff Wheeler

broken veil

4 stars

This is a satisfying ending to a good YA Fantasy series. Most of the storylines are wrapped up, and there is a juicy cliffhanger that is surely a hint for a new series. Continue reading “Broken Veil (Harbinger #5) by Jeff Wheeler”

The Obsidian Tower (Rooks and Ruin #1) by Melissa Caruso

the obsidian tower

4 stars

This is a very good first book in a new fantasy series about magic, loneliness, vengeance and power. Clocking in at 448 pages, it slowly builds tension and intrigue before exploding to a satisfying cliffhanger. Continue reading “The Obsidian Tower (Rooks and Ruin #1) by Melissa Caruso”

The Fiery Crown (Forgotten Empires #2) by Jeffe Kennedy

the fiery crown

3 stars

This is the second book in a fun fantasy series that combines magic, wizards, sword fighting, and evil emperors. Conri and Lia form a fragile alliance to take down Anure, but still have a long way to go in communicating with each other besides falling into bed. They experience a small amount of character development, but almost no other character in the book does. Continue reading “The Fiery Crown (Forgotten Empires #2) by Jeffe Kennedy”

The Orchid Throne (Forgotten Empires #1) by Jeffe Kennedy

the orchid throne

This was an ok first book in a promising fantasy book series. The book is marketed as a “Fantasy Romance”, which is a new one for me. Continue reading “The Orchid Throne (Forgotten Empires #1) by Jeffe Kennedy”
