Slash & Burn (Holden Cove #2) by Maddy Lowe

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Grady is a pro NHL player that sustained a torn rotator cuff while saving a man from drowning. He missed the last 6 games of the season and had surgery, but the recurring nightmares and fear of water are messing with him more than his physical injuries. He returns to his small town of Holden Cove to recover and is matched with one of his childhood friend’s sister, Jill, for a community reading program between his hockey team and her library. She’s off limits, but tell that to the instant chemistry that sparks between the couple.

The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I listened to this book and the narrator did a pretty good job, although I was a bit confused with the accent he used for the male MC. The guy is supposed to be from a fake country that I equate to something like Sweden or Denmark, but the accent the narrator used was more Spanish than Nordic. The narrator sounded like Puss in Boots from the Shrek movies and it was really hard for me to get that image out of my mind. Because of that, the romance and spicy parts of the book were a bit icky.

Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a fun, entertaining mystery/thriller. The book is told from two POVs, Shelby the main female character and Florence, the elderly lady residing in the assisted living facility that Shelby runs. The book starts out with Shelby interrupting a burglary at her best friend Mack’s business. The burglar locks Shelby in the freezer and she almost dies. On the same night, Mack’s husband Leo disappears. The book then moves forward a year. Leo’s disappearance is still a mystery and Mack discovered that Leo was cooking the books and the family is in serious debt. Things kick off when Shelby finds a threatening note on her car after leaving work at the assisted living facility for the day.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I requested this book from NetGalley because the premise of the book sounded so good. Bryony, an aspiring writer attends a writers conference hoping to find an agent to help her publish a book to help her grandfather’s financially-struggling organization where she teaches ESL full-time. She’s turned down by everyone. After having a terrible interview with Jack, an arrogant agent, he asks her to review another author’s work. She gives a spot-on assessment of the work and he offers her the opportunity to ghost-write a popular rom-com author’s next book. In exchange, he’ll help her find a publisher for her book. The book then takes a time leap and we find that Bryony has ghost-written several successful books but wants out.

My Secret Book Boyfriend (Rough and Ready #2) by Kate Perry

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is the second book in the Rough and Ready book series but can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the first book, but there is enough backstory that I didn’t feel lost.

This book was a delight to read. I found myself smiling, laughing, and sighing the entire time. Andrew is the PERFECT book boyfriend. Hot, supportive, thoughtful, sweet, hot, great banter… did I mention hot? The instant spark between Andrew and Zoe jumped off the page. You could see it with every smile and glance between the pair. Andrew supported and encouraged Zoe to follow her dreams and the thoughtful gestures he makes to let Zoe know the depth of his feelings was completely swoon-worthy.
