The Howling Dark (Sun Eater #2) by Chrisopher Ruocchio

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Book two has Hadrian searching for the lost planet of Vorgossos with his band of mercenaries. He’s tasked with finding the enemy Cielcins, who have been ravaging the empire’s worlds with intense ferocity. He believes he can reason with them and wants to try to reach some form of peace with them. Empire officers that accompany him not only have contempt for the mission, they have contempt of Hadrian and stand in his way as much as possible.

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean #1) by Rebecca Yarros

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I know I’m late to the party on this book, and I get why it is so popular. Is it perfect? No. But it’s a fun, crazy ride. Books that involve a deadly training academy are my jam. They always have plenty of insane challenges, found family bonding, and of course, the obligatory off-the-chain crazy villain(s). This book has it all – plus dragons!

Feather and Famine: The Withering Saga – Book 1 by Mariah L. Rosewood

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is such a good first book in a new fantasy trilogy. The Elf kingdom of Ittora is suffering from a years-long famine they believe was caused by a Fey curse. Ayse is the daughter of an apothecary that stumbles upon a magical birch tree in the woods that regenerates itself that she believes may be the key to breaking the famine. It’s outside a log cabin where Aiden, a grumpy mysterious stranger has taken up residence. They are both haunted by their past and desperate to figure out a way to stop the famine. Prince Seok pushes his mother the Queen to declare war on the Fey hoping to force them to stop the famine. He uncovers something amiss with the rations and works to figure out if there is a conspiracy to hoard rations.

Nightweaver (Nightweaver #1) by R.M. Gray

Last week I missed participating in TBR Beyond Tours book tour for this book because I was in Instagram “jail” (when they don’t let you like/comment/follow), but I’m so happy to finally share this engaging book that is out now. I’m just getting into it, so check back later for my full review. It’s an engaging, fast-paced book with great world building and interesting characters. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Embers of Fate (Hearts of Valine #1) by Dani Loughary

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romantasy debut about a young queen, Gwen, and the commoner guard, Tyreal, who has sworn to protect her with his life. Gwen and Tyreal have known each other since they were children and though unspoken, have loved each other from the beginning. That love is forbidden, however, because tradition dictates that she must marry a fellow royal.

The Tyranny of Faith (Empire of the Wolf #2) by Richard Swan

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Book 2 of the trilogy starts shortly after the Battle of Galen’s Vale. Justice Vonvalt returns to capital city Sova to find seeds of rebellion stirring. Senators openly speak against the Emperor and fanatics preach vengeance in the streets. Vonvalt returned to deal with traitors amongst the Justices, but before he can get a handle on it all, the Emperor’s grandson is kidnapped and Vonvalt is ordered to drop everything to find him. He and his allies Helena, Bressinger, and Sir Radomir, are forced to go to the southern frontier, where they once again run into Claver and his templar knights.

The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a really cute mm romance that gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes. In this book, Santa is not warm and fuzzy, but rather an insincere power-hungry dictator determined to strip power from all holidays for Christmas alone. The Christmas heir, Prince Coal, who did not want to be the heir, is initially clueless about the darker side of the holiday. He starts to sense that all is not as it seems when he discovers that the hot Halloween Prince he’d been flirting with, Hex, was being held at the Christmas court as a hostage. Once Coal learns the extent of his father’s tactics, he is determined to find a way for all holidays to work together for the benefit of all.
