The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan

I really enjoyed this quick and easy contemporary read. Annie and Amanda are best friends with big plans to take L.A. by storm and become famous actresses. Their relationship is amazing. They just get each other. Their inside jokes and short cuts are the epitome of friends that have known each other most of their lives. Amanda loves Annie, but Annie is in love with Amanda. Not that she’s been brave enough to tell her, of course. When a tragedy occurs Annie flees town on her own and assumes a new identity as Cass.

This is a good YA dark academia book that pits four teenagers against each other to become the heir to the King’s throne. Three of them are the royal grandchildren of the King who were sent away & raised by guardians out of the public eye. The fourth is a teenager that won a scholarship to the elite academy they are all sent to that is infamous for breeding the world’s next generation of leaders – and liars.

Book 2 of the trilogy starts shortly after the Battle of Galen’s Vale. Justice Vonvalt returns to capital city Sova to find seeds of rebellion stirring. Beard in Hiding (Winston Brothers #4.5) by Penny Reid

I absolutely LOVE the Winston Brothers series, so when I saw this book set in the same world focused on two side characters, I couldn’t wait to read it. This book is about Jason “Repo” Doe, the finance guy for the Iron Wraith motorcycle club that the brother’s abusive father belongs to, and Diane Donner, Jennifer “the banana cake queen’s” mother and owner of the local lodge and bakery. Diane is divorced from her despicable husband and has decided to take back her power. She strolls into the Iron Wraith’s dive bar looking to talk Repo into a one-night stand. Who knew that one night wouldn’t be enough for either of them?

This is book three of the 6:20 man series but can be read as a stand-alone. I thought I’d read the first two books, but turns out, I hadn’t. No worries. The author provides enough back story on the main character Travis Devine so the reader does not feel too lost. Travis is ex-military, worked as a Wall Street trader, and has enough skills and survival sense to deal with whatever is thrown at him. This time he’s asked to help the FBI escort 12 year old orphan Betsy to meet with her uncle – a guy he served with in a battle overseas. But the uncle is now a criminal kingpin facing RICO charges.

The Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch

This was a really cute mm romance that gave me Romeo and Juliet vibes. In this book, Santa is not warm and fuzzy, but rather an insincere power-hungry dictator determined to strip power from all holidays for Christmas alone. The Christmas heir, Prince Coal, who did not want to be the heir, is initially clueless about the darker side of the holiday. He starts to sense that all is not as it seems when he discovers that the hot Halloween Prince he’d been flirting with, Hex, was being held at the Christmas court as a hostage. Once Coal learns the extent of his father’s tactics, he is determined to find a way for all holidays to work together for the benefit of all.

Hot Mic, Cold Ice by Tela V.

This is a fun, flirty, steamy contemporary hockey romance. The book started off a bit slow, but once the characters started to interact more it picked up. Ziggy starts a new job as an on-air hockey reporter, but she’s never done it before. It starts off rocky, especially when hot-shot goalie Elliot humiliates her during her first sportscast. What starts off as animosity quickly turns to lust as the two secretly hook up. Both of their careers improve as they continue their clandestine affair, but things get complicated when real feelings start to creep in.
