Yet another great mystery starring our favorite K-9 officer Mattie Cobb and her partner Robo. This time Timber Creek is having a lot of rain and areas are starting to flood. While out checking on damaged trails in the mountains, Mattie and Robo stumble on a dead body caught up on a tree in the flood waters. The deceased is linked to a new religious sect that has moved into the area. The members dress in 19th Century attire and practice polygamy.

This was a fairly good Mystery/Thriller book about a nanny left to care for 4 children in a remote Scottish Highlands “smart” house that is reportedly “haunted”. This is a quick and enjoyable mystery/thriller that has a story within a story. Rachel has a true crime podcast (think “Serial”) that grew in popularity after her first season when she investigated a murder trial and found evidence that set the defendant free. Now in her third season, she is following a rape trial in real-time in the small town of Neapolis. This book is a creepy, weird mixture of mystery/suspense and horror – a combination that works surprisingly well.
