Will he show her heaven, or take her straight to hell?
Evie has done it again! I absolutely loved this book. Eveline is the vicar at Foxbrooke. She secretly reads cozy romance novels and dreams of finding her dream man & having a family but her job always gets in the way. She briefly met a man (Jack) a year ago that made her soul sing & there was an instant attraction. Trouble is, he is a male escort and mistook her for a new client. Discovering his mistake, he abruptly left Eveline at the bar, but she’s been haunting his every thought ever since.
A year later, imagine both of their surprises when he shows up in Foxbrooke when his father dies & Eveline is there to officiate the funeral. Awkward. He’s shocked she’s a vicar. She’s shocked he lied about his name and wonders why he left her. The instant attraction is there and stronger than ever, but Jack can’t get past the vicar part – or can he?
Eveline and Jack are fantastic characters. They both have strengths and flaws but complement each other so well and work as a couple. I loved how they supported each other and their capacity for forgiveness and faith in the other was so sweet. It’s rare to have that kind of trust in another person. It’s clear that Jack had zero self-worth but has such a huge capacity to care and give to other people that he just needed a chance to trust himself to do it. Eveline and the people of Foxbrooke give him that chance. Meanwhile Eveline needed to learn to ask for help and rely on someone else, and in Jack she found that person. We still get the fantastic wit and steam we expect in an Alexander novel, just with a small dose of praying as well.
