This is a cute grumpy/sunshine RomCom set in a small town in Wisconsin. Melissa is in her early 30s and working in a bridal shop she owns with her mother. Usually she’s happy to help brides pick out the perfect dress, but lately she’s hating life. She wants nothing more than to find the “right one” and settle down and have a family. But, the prospects are slim in her small town and she wonders if it will ever happen.
Jamie is a single dad to 12 year old Sammy. They move to Wisconsin from Chicago because Sammy’s being bullied by mean girls in her school and making her life intolerable. They’ve vacationed in the town and loved it, so they both help it will give them both a new start. Sammy’s mother left her and Jamie when Sammy was only 10 months old. The wound left behind on them both has never healed.
I loved the dynamic between Melissa and Jamie. Melissa is very up front with what she wants. I love her bravery in putting herself out there. I could never do that. Jamie wants Melissa just as much as she wants him, but refuses to let himself get close because he’s afraid she’d leave him and Sammy. Jamie is in denial about his unresolved feelings for Sammy’s mother. He’s got more issues to deal with than he will admit, and it takes a lot for him to come to terms with them. Melissa recognizes this and gives him the space to work it out for himself.
I really like this series of books and look forward to the next book featuring Melissa’s friend Paige. This is a fun, quick read that I recommend you check out, and it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from Kate Rock Book Tours. All opinions are my own.
