I really enjoyed this contemporary romance about a couple that meet during a joint island bachelor/bachelorette party, spend a glorious few days together, and plan to take 2 years apart to get their life sorted out and then get back together. What could go wrong?
Sparks fly between Briar and Dorian when they meet during the tropical party. They instantly hit it off, seeing their perfect soulmate in the other. The problem? Dorian is on the road for the next two years and can’t commit to anyone or anything. They promise each other after the two years, they will get together and spend the rest of their lives together. But in the meantime, no contact. At all.
Briar finds herself in a dead-end job with an ass for a boss, Burke. Until he makes her the perfect offer – pretend to be his fiancee for eight weeks on his family’s private island to appease his dying father. Once the eight weeks are up, she will walk away with a cool million dollars. It’s the answer to all her problems while she waits for Dorian. What could go wrong? Everything, apparently, when her fake finacee’s brother is none other than Dorian.
Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, but Burke has zero redeeming qualities, and I know there will be no happily ever after between the two. One of my least favorite tropes is miscommunication, so the struggle was real for me with this book. However, I loved Briar and Dorian so much that I was able to overlook my intense dislike of the miscommunication trope. Their chemistry was palpable and it was sweet seeing a couple so completely suited to each other. Even if it’s a fake couple.
The first half of the book switches between the prior year when Briar and Dorian met and the current time line, which was effectively done to tell the story. I’m usually not very sappy even when love stories are written well, but there was something about this couple that made my heart hurt every time I read about their despair at being so close and yet so far apart. Thankfully this is a HEA book and I knew that it would all work out in the end.
This is a quick and easy read that you won’t be able to put down until you see the couple get together in the end. This book is available on KU, so pick it up now. Well, what are you waiting for?
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Kate Rock Book Tours and the author. All opinions are my own.
