I really enjoyed reading Penn and Astrid’s story in book two of the series. Penn and Astrid’s husband Brandon were best friends. Brandon was in the military and died four years ago. Since then, Penn has been looking out for Astrid and her two kids. Having looked after them for years, Penn’s feelings begin to change and he finds himself falling in love with Astrid. She feels the same, but guilt keeps them both from confessing their feelings or acting on them.
Penn and Astrid are both warm and loving people that would do anything for anyone. The problem is their selfless habit means they always put their own needs last. Whenever anyone is in need they are there, despite what it does to their own plans.
I loved it when they finally decided to go for their dreams, both in their professional & personal lives. It was such a relief to finally see them doing something for themselves. This is true especially in their private life together. Their chemistry was off the charts, making for some spicy fun times. The problem is, they don’t talk to each other about the important stuff – feelings. It was frustrating to see them tip toeing around their feelings and rather than sharing their thoughts and feelings like an adult, they just pretend that if they don’t say anything everything will magically work itself out.
Despite that, I did enjoy reading their story. It was also great hearing from friends and family we met in book 1, and I loved the girl power vibes between Astrid and Willow. The side characters added depth and levity to the book. There is nothing funnier than siblings giving each other sh*t.
I listened to this book & the narrators did a great job.
I was provided a complimentary e-book and audiobook from The Author Agency. All opinions are my own.
