This is a good second-chance, enemies-to-lovers, and one and only contemporary romance set in a small town. The book has funny group texts amongst siblings as well as a lot of sensitive topics, self-doubt, and heartache. It will have your emotions all over the place.
Don’t get me wrong, the book is also sweet and sexy. I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t love a guy that falls first – and hard! Levi is my new book boyfriend and wow, is he HOT! Levi and Harper have been friends since they were kids and dated as teenagers. They had a really bad breakup and spent the last 10 years apart. Harper returns to small-town Starlight Cove for work and thanks to meddling landlord Mabel tricking them both, she and Levi end up living together. The bickering starts and the chemistry between them is off the charts. It’s not long before they start a relationship again.
It’s so sad to hear how broken Levi is and how guilt-ridden he feels about his past. The fact he sacrificed his happiness to do what he thought was the best thing for Harper will make your heart melt. Harper does a decent job pretending her globe-trotting job is the end all be all, but she’s so sad and lonely she’ll never let anyone close enough to discover the lie. She only wakes up whenever Levi is around. I get why she wants to stay strong and not succumb to her feelings for him, but I don’t see how she held out for as long as she did. Whew.
I’m not really into the second-chance romance trope, and I cannot stand miscommunication and a third act breakup. That said, I was able to overlook these things and still enjoy the book. You should really check it out for yourself.
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from The Author Agency and the author. All opinions are my own.
