This is a fun Olympic romance that features Ari, a hockey player on the Great Britain’s hockey team, and Drew, an American that dropped out of graduate school, broke up with his girlfriend, and needs a fresh start. They bump into each other at a New Year’s Eve party and have instant chemistry, but neither is looking for a relationship. A couple months later they run into each other at the Olympics, where Drew has secured a position as a sports photographer. The combination of complicated exes, over-involved families, and stress-inducing teammates convinces them to fake date their way through the Games.
I liked the couple’s chemistry. They clearly have feelings for each other, but because of their history are hesitant to get involved in another relationship. Both characters had a lot of issues with their families, so they could relate to each other there. I liked the camaraderie of the hockey team and really enjoyed the Olympic atmosphere of the story, especially right now with the Olympics going on.
I listened to this book and the narrator did a great job portraying the various characters in the book. It was easy to distinguish between the main characters and she brought the story to life with the inflections of the storyline.
I received a complimentary audio copy of this book from NetGalley and Macmillan Audio. All opinions are my own.
