This book was so freaking cute!! A book about dragon veterinarians? At a dragon sanctuary? Yes, please!! Farren, the FMC, is attending the dragon academy so she can be a dragon vet like her father. She is a “lowly” copper crafter in their magic system. She is not popular and is teased by her classmates. James, the MMC, comes from a rich silver crafting family and is snobby and arrogant, and more importantly, Farren’s main competition for a college scholarship.

But not all is as it seems. James finagles a summer internship at Farren’s sanctuary and secretly wants to become a dragon vet, not a dragon rider. He also harbors a secret crush on Farren. Farren is horrified that James is spending the summer in her home, but as she is forced to spend time with him, realizes there is more to James that initially thought. The more she gets to know him, the warmer her feelings toward him becomes.

It’s hard to say too much more without spoilers, but let me say, this book has so many cool elements to it. The author does a great job of worldbuilding that is easy to understand. There are political issues regarding the magic system and classism, issues of greed, physical and mental abuse, and a sweet romance between Farren and James. I’ve never read a dragon book that features the aspect of caring for them or protecting them, so I loved this unique framework of the story. The story has a satisfying ending that will make you smile.

This book is sweet, exciting, and action-packed. It’s a quick and easy read and I love that it’s a stand-alone novel, although I’d actually love to read more books set in this world. I listened to the audio of this book and the narrators did a fantastic job. You felt the earnestness of the characters and the excitement and tension of the storyline.
