Infernal (The Chronicles of Stratus #1) by Mark De Jager

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I have mixed feelings about this book. At times I liked it, and at others I was annoyed at it. It’s a dark fantasy told in the first person about a man that wakes up with no memory and unable to move. From there, he takes us a on a violent road trip to an unknown destination to find answers to burning questions like, “what (not who) am I”, “why am I so angry” and “why do I have a thirst for revenge”?

Skyhunter (Skyhunter #1) by Marie Lu

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a fantastic first book in an exciting YA Fantasy/SciFi series. There is a strong, flawed female lead, complicated relationships, creepy monsters and plenty of action. It’s a quick read and I couldn’t put it down.

Wow. This is a fantastic first book in an exciting new African-inspired epic fantasy series. The book starts off slowly but quickly picks up steam and doesn’t let up. There is a good amount of worldbuilding and plenty of action. Add in good character development and complicated relationships, and you have a winner.

The Camelot Betrayal (Camelot Rising #2) by Kiersten White

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is the second book in the exciting YA Fantasy series and it does not disappoint. The book delves deeper into Guinevere’s role in Camelot. To complicate matters, the real Guinevere’s younger sister shows up in Camelot and refuses to leave.

The Bone Shard Daughter (The Drowning Empire #1) by Andrea Stewart

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very good first book in an exciting new fantasy series. It has interesting characters, multiple storylines and focuses more on magic than sword fighting. I’m not a huge fan of books focused on magic, but this isn’t the wizard-wielding type of magic. It’s much more subtle and sinister.
