This was our April book club book. I really enjoyed this creepy mystery/thriller/horror book. The book, set in 1982, is weird and creepy and will suck you in and you won’t want to put it down. Viv Delaney leaves her home town and ends up in Fells, NY. She gets a night clerk job at the same rundown motel her aunt worked at just before she disappeared 35 years ago.

The motel guests are those passing through, and locals trying to hide their secrets. Viv quickly discovers that something just isn’t right about the Sun Down Motel. She experiences ghostly visits by former employees and guests and is determined to uncover the secrets they seem desperate to share. Viv is helped by her roommate and a man that has returned to Fells after a long time away.

This book is so good. I’m a pretty big wimp when it comes to horror books and while this book is creepy, it stops just short of being scary. The author does a great job of setting the ambience and you can just feel the despair of not only the motel, but of the whole sad town. The supporting characters are interesting, and have mysteries of their own, but I was a bit frustrated that some of those mysteries are left unresolved.

Overall, this is a really great book with plenty of twists and surprises. I highly recommend you read it.
