This is a cute contemporary romance that is a quick and easy read. Strangers Jo and Matthew have an unexpected encounter in a bar that ends up in his hotel room. When they wake up they find themselves apparently “married”. Called to Rome for an emergency, but eager to sort out their mess ASAP, Matt asks Jo to come with him. Doing the unthinkable, she agrees. Jo and Matthew are total opposites. Jo is crushed when she finds out the bills have piled up and her family has to sell their beloved ranch –Tessa. Matthew is a ruthless CEO with a brilliant mind, and he’s none other than the heir to the Devaro family’s mega fortune and business empire. Jo agrees to stay in Rome to help his family’s public disaster in exchange for help to save her family ranch. But can she survive Matthew’s family and ex-girlfriend?

Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch

This was a cute historical fiction/romance with a good touch of humor. Set in Regency era England, the story follows the exploits of Emmeline and William Pershing who have enjoyed a perfectly convenient marriage for eight years. More business partners than husband and wife, Will married Emmeline to help her keep her childhood home, and in turn, Emmeline helped Will advance his career with the government. It is all threatened when the couple are invited to Emmeline’s grandfather’s house for his birthday party. The home came with a caveat: Emmeline and Will must have children within the first five years of their marriage or they forfeit the place. While the couple’s few attempts to conceive came to nothing, Emmeline did not let that deter her. She created two imaginary children for the couple and has been lying to her family for the past eight years.

So, they pretend to be engaged to fulfill both of their goals. But Poppy also knows it’s a risk being so close to Casteel, because they definitely have chemistry together that is hard to resist. The closer Poppy gets to Atlantia, the more her power grows. Atlantia is at unrest. Whispers of war are growing, the Descenters want Poppy dead and the King wants to use her to send a message. But the gods may have different ideas.

This is a fantastic first book in a thrilling Historical Fiction Fantasy series. The book is set in 981 A.D. Ireland. The Viking King of Dublin is dead and his wife, Gormflaith, has plans to install her son on the throne. But there are several sons and uncles that Gormflaith must go through before she achieves her goal. Gormflaith also has a secret that she must keep to avoid death by those sworn to kill her race. Gormflaith is a Fomorian, an immortal race who can do fire-magic.

From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash #1) by Jennifer Armentrout

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Ok, I know that I’m way behind everyone else in reading this series, so the last thing you want to do is read another review about this book, but WOW! I loved this book. In it’s simplest form, you can call this book a YA Fantasy Romance. And yeah, it is. But it also has a load of fighting, paranormal elements, magic, and court intrigue.

Not Rowing to Lie (Castoria U #2) by Rosie Birch

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a fun and cute college romance. It’s a quick and easy book that I read in a few hours. I haven’t read any college romance books before and am surprised I liked it as much as I did. Renee is on the rowing team and Jesse Tremblay is a star hockey player with NHL dreams. He only has one-night stands and his policy regarding women is one and done. During a murder mystery party, Renee and Jesse meet while hiding out in the kitchen and make a connection. Feeling daring, Renee sheds her “good girl” persona for a few hours and takes Jesse up on his offer of a one-night stand.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very cute contemporary paranormal romance book that was a fun, quick, and easy read. Mika Moon is one of just a few witches in Britain and she knows the rules: keep her head down, hide her magic and don’t mingle with other witches so their power doesn’t draw attention. Raised as an orphan, Mika has never felt a part of anything. She had no family, was raised by strangers, and never stayed in one place long enough to make friends or plant roots. Her only bit of rebellion; an online account where she posts videos of herself “pretending” to do magic. She thinks no one actually believes she’s a real witch – until a letter arrives.

The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very good contemporary psychological mystery/thriller. The book is told from two character’s perspectives. Meg Williams, a twenty-something con woman that targets bad men that do bad things. Kat Roberts, a twenty-something aspiring journalist that blames Meg for something she did 10 years ago that derailed Kat’s life. Kat has been waiting 10 years to confront Meg and write an article that will finally bring the con woman down and gain justice for Kat.

Mercy (Atlee Pine #4) by David Baldacci

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is another great mystery/thriller in the Atlee Pine book series. This time, FBI agent Atlee is close on the trail of finding her missing sister Mercy. She discovers why her parents left, why Mercy was kidnapped, and evidence that Mercy actually survived her abduction and escaped her captors years ago. She still doesn’t know if Mercy is still alive (but the reader knows she is), or how she’s surviving, but Atlee is determined to finally get the answers to questions that have been plaguing her her entire life.

This book starts off with a bang and doesn’t stop until the satisfying ending. The book is told from Atlee and Mercy’s perspectives, and we finally get answers to a lot of the questions that have been haunting Atlee the entire book series. There is plenty of fast-paced action and great villains to hate. I can’t wait to see where this book series goes next.
