The Funny Thing About Norman Forman by Julietta Henderson

Twelve year old Norman and his best friend Jax are a comedy duo whose 5 year plan is to debut their act at the Edinburgh Fringe comedy festival. Then Jax dies. To overcome his grief and honor Jax, Norman decides he has to perform at the festival himself. The problem is that Jax was the funny one, not Norman. Norman also decides it’s time to meet his father and convinces his mother Sadie to embark on a journey to find his dad and perform at the festival. They are aided by Sadie’s co-worker and they all learn a lot about themselves, and each other, along the way.

Warrior’s Ransom (The First Argentine’s #2) by Jeff Wheeler

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is another great book in this YA Fantasy series. If you haven’t read the first book yet, you have time to pick it up and read, and then read this one before the third book comes out in September 2021.

Slingshot by Mercedes Helnwein

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is an ok Young Adult Contemporary Romance set in a mid-tier boarding school in Florida. Grace is a 15 year out outcast who believes her science teacher is her soulmate. When she finds out he’s engaged, her heart shatters. She then sees one of the popular bullies and his minions beating up a boy and she shoots a rock with her slingshot and hits the bully in the face. The boy, Wade, and Grace run off and escape. So begins the relationship between Grace and Wade. It starts as friendship and Grace begins to see the world differently and open herself up. It slowly builds to a sweet romance. But, they both have secrets they are keeping from each other and eventually Grace unintentionally crushes Wade’s heart. Can either of them survive the heartache?

Empire of Jackals (Chrysathamere Trilogy #2) by Morgan Cole

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a good second book in the trilogy, and focuses mainly on Marilia’s twin brother Annuweth. He is still bitter about the injuries he sustained, and about Marilia’s successes in the war. As Marilia tries to step back from warfare and power, Annueweth plots to grab it an any cost.

Ready Player Two (Ready Player One, #2) by Ernest Cline

Rating: 3 out of 5.

3.5 stars

I LOVED Ready Player One and read it in one sitting. So, I was super excited when I heard the author was writing a sequel. While I liked this book, it pales in comparison to the first one. But hey, what do you expect? The first book was brilliant and I’m not surprised I didn’t like the second one as much.

Court of Swans (The Dericott Tales #1) by Melanie Dickerson

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I could not get into this YA Historical Fiction. I didn’t like the writing style. It was too basic and didn’t flow well. I was disappointed because the description of the book really interested me. This is just my opinion, however, and others may enjoy the book.
