She meets the owner’s grandson David and initially is concerned that the plans he has for his grandmother’s house serves his needs more than his grandmother’s, but eventually those concerns dissipate. Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a pretty good epistolary mystery written exclusively as if reading a movie script. In December 2003, Luke Ryder, the stepfather of acclaimed filmmaker Guy Howard (then aged 10), was found dead in the garden of their suburban family home. Luke was babysitting Guy. Luke’s two teenage step-daughters found him dead in the back yard, while Guy slept in his room. The children’s mother was a suspect but she was at a party that night with a solid alibi. His murder remains unsolved.

After That Night (Will Trent, #11) by Karin Slaughter

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is book 11 of the Will Trent mystery/thriller series and it was great. This is the first book I’ve read in the series, but having watched the tv series, I didn’t feel lost reading it. Plus, there is enough backstory in the book to help the reader understand what is going on. The book can be read as a stand-alone mystery.

The Love Plot by Samantha Young

Rating: 4 out of 5.

4.5 stars

This book was a delight to read and I absolutely loved it! I could not stop reading and read it in one sitting. Now I’m bummed, because I would love to go back and read it again for the first time. Fake dating is my favorite romcom trope, so this book was *chef’s kiss*. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but now I can’t wait to go back and read her previous works.

This is an entertaining contemporary mystery set in a bookstore in a small town in Pennsylvania. A few years ago five retired seniors in a writer’s group bought the town bookstore. What Would Jane Austen Do by Linda Corbett

Rating: 4 out of 5.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that two hundred year old Jane Austen quotes and advice is timeless and no less relevant today. This is an adorable contemporary romantic comedy about love, community, and finding lost family history. Maddy Shaw is a Jane Austen fan and journalist that wrote a column called Dear Jane dispensing advice with a Jane Austen spin. She was unceremoniously fired by email and left with no job and no way to pay rent on her London flatshare.
