The Violent Season by Sara Walters

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a very good mystery/thriller that is hard to put down. Wyatt lives in the small town of Wolf Ridge, Vermont and believes in the urban legend that every November the people of her town are overwhelmed by a hunger for violence. Too many people die in her small town die in that month, including her mother, who was brutally murdered last November.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a soapy contemporary mystery/thriller set in an exclusive, wealthy neighborhood in the Bay Area. Mystery writer Brooke is married to Jack, her older billionaire tech mogul husband. He is overly protective of Brooke and very private. Brooke is very submissive and pretty much does everything Jack tells her to do to keep up appearances of their “perfect” marriage.

Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a good, fast-paced mystery/thriller set in a small town in British Columbia. The Cold Creek Highway stretches 500 miles through small towns and isolated wilderness in B.C. For decades young women traveling the road alone have gone missing. Some bodies turn up, some don’t. The killer, or killers, have never been arrested.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I really enjoy this author’s work and this book series, but this is my least favorite book in the series so far. I didn’t find the mystery as compelling as in past books, and there seemed to be a lot of filler and repetitiveness to the story.

An Extravagant Death (Charles Lenox Mysteries, #11) by Charles Finch

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is the eleventh book in this series, but it’s the first one that I’ve read. Despite that, I didn’t have a hard time understanding what was going on. The mystery is a stand-alone and there is enough backstory throughout the book for me to get an understanding of the main characters.

The Project by Courtney Summers

This is a pretty good YA Mystery/Thriller about a young woman’s search for a sister who joined a group that may or may not be a cult.

The Unwilling by John Hart

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is another great mystery/thriller by John Hart. I always look forward to his books because they are so well written, and the stories are so original, that it’s an immense pleasure to read them. This book is set in the South during the Vietnam War and follows one family as they struggle with the invisible wounds of PTSD and the growing pains of coming of age.
