This is my first book by this author but I will definitely check out her other books. The book was a wild ride with plenty of twists and I found myself changing opinions several times about who did what. That’s what I’m looking for in a thriller – I want to be surprised.
“There are three rules Brooke Sullivan must follow as a new nurse practitioner at a men’s maximum-security 1) Treat all prisoners with respect. 2) Never reveal any personal information. 3) Never EVER become too friendly with the inmates.” Brooke quickly breaks all of these rules since one of the most dangerous and notorious inmates is her ex-boyfriend, Shane. He’s in prison for committing some grisly murders, and Brooke’s testimony is the one that put him there.
It was hard to like Brooke. She was unnaturally clueless and naive, which frustrated me to no end. I’m not sure if the author meant for her to be that way or not, but I often found myself rolling my eyes and telling her to not be so stupid. Sadly, she never seemed to learn from her mistakes until the very end. The book is twisty and even though I knew that Shane was a psychopath, whether or not he was guilty, I can see how people succumbed to his charms. When I worked as an adult Probation and Parole Officer way back when, I supervised several people like that. They always gave me chills…
The ending was a wild rush – and don’t even get my started on the epilogue. What?!
I received a complimentary ebook from NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press. All opinions are my own.
BONUS – The book is available on Kindle Unlimited!
