This was a fun YA book about a former heiress taking revenge on the father that kicked her and her mother out of their mansion with nothing after the divorce. Barely scraping by, and with mounting medical bills piling up, Olivia spends months enlisting fellow high schoolers to enact the perfect plan of vengeance. Even better, it all takes place during her father’s third wedding. What could possibly go wrong?
This was a fun story full of action, angst, and emotions. You have to suspend belief during most of the book and just accept it for what it is – pure fun. The grownups were pretty one-dimensional bad guys, but I could overlook that because you can’t take a book like this seriously. It’s supposed to be a fun read, so just go with it!
I loved Olivia. She is strong, determined and quick on her feet. No matter what obstacles get put in front of her, she adapts and overcomes. The cast of characters she surrounds herself with – her crew – start out as strangers and end as friends. I particularly liked the comic relief of Kevin. So annoying, and yet, so redeemable at the end. He had the best growth arc of the entire book.
This book is described as The Inheritance Games meets Ocean 11. I can see that. It’s a fun read – definitely check it out. I was provided a complimentary e-copy of this book from TBR Beyond Tours and Little Brown Young Readers. All opinions are my own.
