This is a great mystery/thriller with a cunning female and an exciting plot. Evie is for hire. She’s given an identity, then a location, and finally the mark. She worms her way into the mark’s life to accomplish her mysterious boss Mr. Smith’s objective. Once done, she disappears to assume another identity, in another town. Evie is happy with this arrangement until now.
Her mark, Ryan, has gotten under her skin. She’s finally seeing a possibility beyond her next job. But Evie can’t make mistakes, and knows what could happen if she does. Her one last hope, to return to her real identity, just went up in smoke. When another woman walks into her life with Evie’s real identify.
Evie is intelligent, cunning, and determined. She never stops thinking five steps ahead, and is always wary of everyone and everything that happens in her constructed life. This time, however, she finally allows herself to believe she could have a different life. That she’s entitled to happiness and stability. She takes minute steps to ensure this happy life, but then little things occur to threaten that dream.
I love the cat and mouse game between Evie and Mr. Smith. I also enjoyed hearing about Evie’s history and how she learned her craft. The twists are clever and the story fast-paced and intriguing. I listened to this book and the narrator did a fantastic job. I could not “read” this book fast enough.
I highly recommend you read this book.
