This is the fourth book in the Carrington Cove romance series but can be read as a stand-alone. This time, it’s vet Parker’s turn for love. He has a meet-cute with Cashlyn on a plane to a conference. They have one perfect hot and steamy night together, and then she disappears. Try as he might, Parker can’t let go of her memory. Turns out, he doesn’t need to. After his boss suffers an injury and Cashlyn returns home a year later, he discovers that the mystery girl that has been haunting his dreams is his boss’s daughter. The boss he admires and hopes to take over the vet practice from…
Parker and Cashlyn both have hardships they are trying to overcome. After being hurt badly by a past girlfriend, Parker has shut off the possibility of a HEA, but of course, Cashlyn challenges this decision over and over again. Especially when he is ambushed with her announcement to her father that they are engaged. Before he knows it, the couple are living together and their highly built wall of defenses start to crack. For her part, Cashlyn is at a stand-still with her career. Discontent with being an attorney (which, by the way, I can totally relate to), she yearns to continue painting and opening an art studio, despite the fact that she knows her father will be hurt and extremely disappointed. As the couple gets closer, they help heal their hurts and allow themselves to see the possibilities open to them.
Parker and Cashlyn have instant chemistry and the spicy scenes sizzle off the page. I also liked how Cashlyn challenges Parker when he needs it, and Parker is supportive and protective of her. They seem to have just what the other lacks and is not afraid to provide the help. In the past Parker has been closed off and bitter, unwilling to even consider a lasting relationship with anyone. He never thought he’d change his mind and is shocked when he starts to see a future with Cashlyn. I loved seeing his journey of healing and can relate to being gun shy about being vulnerable. Cashlyn is terrified that she will disappoint her father and because of her mother’s love for art, feels that she can’t follow her own passion for it.
One of the reasons I love this series so much is Parker’s wonderful family. They play a big part in this book and it was great touching base with characters from previous books. There is nothing better than the love, support, and sassy snark that family can provide. This family shows love through teasing and giving each other shit, which is very relatable.
I listened to the audio of the book and the narrators did a great job. They were so expressive and brought life to the characters. I felt like I was living the story with the characters, rather than just reading about their life. If you haven’t read this series yet, jump in now. You can start anywhere and not feel like you’re missing anything.
I received a complimentary e-copy and audio copy of this book from The Author Agency and the author. All opinions are my own.
