This book is so adorable! I love the fake dating trope, and this one is done very well. Fable works as a creative in marketing for Wilder’s company. She’s funny, cheery, sunny, goes out of her way for her friends and is an overall delight. He’s a serious billionaire single dad that likes order and being in charge. The two have mutual friends and are the best man/maid of honor for their friend’s wedding. Fable needs a date for the wedding to show her cheating ex-boyfriend that she’s fine. Wilder needs a date to get his overbearing, matchmaking aunt to back off setting him up. They decide to fake date for the wedding, and the week of fun and games in the small town where the wedding will be held. No problem. They’re friends. It’s only a week. They can fake it, right? Right.
In true romcom fashion, circumstances land them in a cabin with one bed. Wilder’s daughter is a smart, mischievous girl intent on pushing the two together. I loved his relationship with Wilder. She definitely acts older than her age, and often that’s really annoying, but not so here. I loved Fable’s relationship with her sister and friends. The banter between all of the characters is brilliant and it made reading the book so much fun.
Fable’s been burned by love and her odious ex-boyfriend is an exaggerated version of every moronic full-of-himself jerk that treats women badly. Wilder has a good relationship with his ex-wife, but because of his work and the way he is, he doesn’t think he’s built for a long-term relationship. But, this is a romance and the author does a great job of building chemistry between the couple and showing just how quickly and how hard someone can fall for the right person. The spicy scenes are hot and Wilder doesn’t like being in charge just in the boardroom….(wink, wink).
This is the fifth book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone.
This is the second book by this author that I’ve read and I love her writing. Guess I need to read her backlist now, huh?
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
BLURB:
Wanted: one hot billionaire to pose as my Christmas boyfriend. Must be willing to make my cheating ex jealous when you kiss me under the mistletoe at all the holiday parties. Bonus points if you make him cry.
To my surprise my billionaire boss is more than up for the challenge of coming down the chimney as my holiday boyfriend. The sexy single dad desperately needs a plus one at a Christmas Eve wedding, where he’s the best man and I’m the maid of honor.
And since my ex is in the wedding party too, my boss and I team up as a pair of insta-lovebirds for the holiday season, including during the annual week-long Christmas competition leading up to the snowy destination wedding.
But soon staying up late to string the best popcorn balls ever turns into a scorching night in his arms where the chestnuts aren’t the only thing roasting on the open fire.
Can all these winter wonderland nights seeking revenge turn into the real thing when we return to the office? Or are we destined to go the way of a Christmas tree on New Year’s?
