This is a very sweet, heartwarming contemporary small town romance between dog groomer Sutton and firefighter Jameson. Sutton fled L.A. because of some messed-up family drama and landed in small town Amity, WA. She is hired by a small grooming business which overlooks the town fire department and the hot men that work there, including Jameson. Sutton has no desire to get involved with anyone, but Jameson is intent on wearing her down.
Jameson is back in his small hometown after moving to Florida to help take care of his ill mom. His dad resents Jameson for leaving and they can’t seem to get past it. Jameson isn’t looking for a relationship, but once he meets Sutton, he’s determined to make her his. He gives out major golden retriever energy and she resists for a really long time – but she’s only human, after all – and finally caves.
I really liked the cute nicknames Sutton and Jameson gave each other and their witty banter is adorable. I liked how Jameson is supportive of Sutton and let’s her go on her own timeline with no pressure. He listens and respects her, which is what every girl wants in a man.
The cheeky parrot that lives at the grooming business cracked me up. I liked the hyper college girl that works at the groomers. She barely takes a breath during her non-stop chatter about her and her roommate’s college shenanigans, but she’s a total sweetheart and ends up being a good friend to Sutton. So does Sutton’s taciturn neighbor that lives across the street and clearly has something going on with her next door neighbor she’s constantly bickering with.
I received a complimentary audio of this book from Simon Maverick. The narrators did a fantastic job with the characters in the book. Troy Duran’s voice is amazing and he portrayed Jameson with such a sexy and playful voice. You could feel Jameson’s warmth and devotion with every word. Shaina Summerville did a great job with Sutton and all the other female voices. You could feel Sutton’s hesitance, but curiosity, through Shaina’s acting. The narrators did a great job with the other characters in the book and changed their voices enough that you could tell who each person was as they spoke. All opinions are my own.
I look forward to reading more books in this series.
