The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives by Kristin Miller

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a soapy contemporary mystery/thriller set in an exclusive, wealthy neighborhood in the Bay Area. Mystery writer Brooke is married to Jack, her older billionaire tech mogul husband. He is overly protective of Brooke and very private. Brooke is very submissive and pretty much does everything Jack tells her to do to keep up appearances of their “perfect” marriage.

Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was a good, fast-paced mystery/thriller set in a small town in British Columbia. The Cold Creek Highway stretches 500 miles through small towns and isolated wilderness in B.C. For decades young women traveling the road alone have gone missing. Some bodies turn up, some don’t. The killer, or killers, have never been arrested.

When a Duke Loves a Governess (Unlikely Duchesses, #3) by Olivia Drake

Rating: 3 out of 5.

3.5 stars

This was a cute historical regency romance about Tessa, a young woman who yearns to open her own millinery shop. When Tessa’s mother dies during an accident, she gives her a locket with a coat or arms on it that presumably belonged to her father. Tessa plans to find her father and ask him to loan her enough money to open her own shop. Not having access to seeing the coat of arms of the nobility, she lies about her background and takes a job as governess to the troubled four year old daughter of the new Duke of Carlin in hopes that she will discover her father with her new access to the ton.

This was a good, quick Mystery/Thriller read. Alice and Leo move into a house in a gated community called The Circle. They think they’ve moved into the home of their dreams, but Alice quickly realizes that’s not the case. Two years before, therapist Nina was killed in the house, allegedly by her husband. Alice starts digging into the murder, convinced the husband didn’t kill his wife.

The Missing Treasures of Amy Ashton by Eleanor Ray

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a sweet Contemporary Fiction/Mystery that is a quick and easy read. Amy Ashton once dreamed of becoming an artist but after she suffered a terrible betrayal that she refuses to think about, she withdraws from the world and collects pretty things. Lots of pretty things. Her house is overflowing with pretty things, and Amy now loves pretty things instead of people because they won’t leave her.

Curse of the Specter Queen (Samantha Knox #1) by Jenny Elder Moke

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This was a pretty good YA Fantasy book. There is also a mix of Historical Fiction and Mystery/Thriller in the book, so it’s a bit hard to categorize. There is plenty of action, elements of mythology and magic, with a touch of romance thrown in. It’s quite a mish mash.

Girl One by Sara Flannery Murphy

This was a good SciFi Mystery/Thriller about one of nine girls born without male DNA. The first girl, Josephine, has eschewed all contact and publicity regarding her life at the experimental commune called the “Homestead”. When her mother goes missing under mysterious circumstances, Josie finds herself tracking down her “sisters” in an effort to find her mother. As Josie follows the clues left by her mother, she and her sisters uncover dark secrets about their origin and abilities they possess.

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was our April book club book. I really enjoyed this creepy mystery/thriller/horror book. The book, set in 1982, is weird and creepy and will suck you in and you won’t want to put it down. Viv Delaney leaves her home town and ends up in Fells, NY. She gets a night clerk job at the same rundown motel her aunt worked at just before she disappeared 35 years ago.
