Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger

Ordinary Grace

4.5 stars

This was the July book for my book club. I’ve never read this author before, but I really enjoyed his writing and will definitely read more of his books. This book is written about one fateful summer in the life of 13 year old Frank Drum who lived in New Bremen, MN in 1961. The book is told from his perspective 40 years after the events. The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

the night swim

4 stars (release date August 4, 2020)

This is a quick and enjoyable mystery/thriller that has a story within a story. Rachel has a true crime podcast (think “Serial”) that grew in popularity after her first season when she investigated a murder trial and found evidence that set the defendant free. Now in her third season, she is following a rape trial in real-time in the small town of Neapolis. The town is being torn apart by the rape trial of a young teenage girl by a popular teenage boy training for the Olympics. Continue reading “The Night Swim by Megan Goldin”

The Bright Lands by John Fram

the bright lands

4 stars (release date July 7, 2020)

This book is a creepy, weird mixture of mystery/suspense and horror – a combination that works surprisingly well. I couldn’t stop reading it, even though part of me didn’t want know anything more about what happens and just wanted to go on about my life. Continue reading “The Bright Lands by John Fram”

I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick

i killed zoe spanos

This is a pretty good YA Mystery/Thriller about a teenager working as a nanny in the Hamptons who confesses to the murder of a young woman that she may never have met. Continue reading “I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick”

The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson

The fire in the glass

4 stars

This was a very good historical fiction fantasy book set in 1914 London about a young girl that has visions of the future but is powerless to do anything to prevent the tragedies she sees. The book immediately captured my attention and I wound up reading it in one sitting. Continue reading “The Fire in the Glass by Jacquelyn Benson”

Little Whispers by K.L. Slater

little whispers

3 stars

I had high hopes for this mystery/thriller about a young family that moves to a new, tonier neighborhood in a desirable suburban town, but if fell short for me. Continue reading “Little Whispers by K.L. Slater”

Sin Eater by Megan Campisi

sin eater

3.5 stars

This is a quiet, historical fiction mystery book about a young girl cruelly sentenced to a life of hearing the last confessions of dying people, “eating” their sins, and bearing their guilt so their souls will go to heaven. Continue reading “Sin Eater by Megan Campisi”

Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier

little secrets

4 stars

This emotional mystery/thriller about a woman’s downward spiral after the kidnapping of her 4 year old son, and the crumbling of her 20 year marriage, will suck you in and not let go until the end. I loved the author’s previous book, Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier, so was thrilled when I got the chance to read and review this book. Continue reading “Little Secrets by Jennifer Hillier”

The New Husband by D.J. Palmer

the new husband

3 stars

This mystery/thriller messed with my feelings. One minute I liked it, the next minute I hated it, the next minute I scoffed at it. It’s a typical mystery book, with a few twists that make it a bit more interesting than the norm. Continue reading “The New Husband by D.J. Palmer”
