I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, fun read that kept my attention. When I got the book I didn’t know that this was book 3 in a series. While there are a few references to previous storylines, I didn’t feel that I was missing anything or lost in this story by not having read the previous two books. This is not your usual Neil Gaiman book. I thought it was going to be a story that incorporated Norse mythology elements, but no. It’s basically just a series of short stories that re-tell some of the legends of the Norse gods. I didn’t find it humorous or particularly compelling. In fact, I was able to put it down and not think about it for days at a time. This is definitely not typical for books by this author.

Overall, unless you’re really interested in a simple, basic re-telling of Norse mythology, I’d skip this book.

This was just not my kind of book. I didn’t like the man character Rich or anyone else in the book. Rich is a one-hit wonder cartoonist that leaves his wife and young children to teach at a week long summer conference. During this long week, we learn that Rich is obsessed with a rich woman that he met at the last conference. He has been having an affair with her since the last summer conference and in her sees an escape from the life that he has become increasingly dissatisfied. Meh. This book was disappointing. I was looking forward to reading a cute, fun YA story of the romance between Alexander Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth Schuyler and how it could have possibly happened. Sadly, the story was boring and more of a history lesson than a light romantic read. Not that I’m knocking history books, but that’s not what I was looking for in this book. Such a shame, because I really like other books written by this author. I recommend you skip this book.

This was a weird book. I don’t really know how to categorize it. The book is set during WWII and follows a group of men that crew a B-17 bomber. They are flying a mission over Germany when the plane is sucked into another dimension. The crew is stuck in a decaying world between two groups of last survivors. Their plane is confiscated by one group and the men are rescued by the other. Then there’s the problem of a huge machine guarding the portal that seems to be alive. The rest of the book covers the crew’s experience with this strange world and their attempt to recover their plane and return to the world they know. This book was much better than the 2nd book. It was a satisfying ending to the trilogy. In this book, the young seekers are scattered at the beginning of the book. Quin is rescued by a strange man named Dex after being stranded “there” by Shinobu, who has been captured by John’s grandmother Maggie. John, meanwhile, trains with the younger dread and begins to let go of the hate drilled into him by his mother and grandmother. He realizes that the Middle Dread’s actions to turn Seeker houses against each other is wrong and he sets off on a mission to rescue all of the lost Seekers. I bought this book on its release date while attending a book reading by the author. I put off reading the book because I just didn’t want this series to end. Of course, now I know that the series will continue with the new book Iron Gold, which will be released in January 2018.
