The Obsidian Tower (Rooks and Ruin #1) by Melissa Caruso

the obsidian tower

This is a very good first book in a new fantasy series about magic, loneliness, vengeance and power. Clocking in at 448 pages, it slowly builds tension and intrigue before exploding to a satisfying cliffhanger. Continue reading “The Obsidian Tower (Rooks and Ruin #1) by Melissa Caruso” →

The Fiery Crown (Forgotten Empires #2) by Jeffe Kennedy

This is the second book in a fun fantasy series that combines magic, wizards, sword fighting, and evil emperors. Conri and Lia form a fragile alliance to take down Anure, but still have a long way to go in communicating with each other besides falling into bed. They experience a small amount of character development, but almost no other character in the book does. Continue reading “The Fiery Crown (Forgotten Empires #2) by Jeffe Kennedy” →
