Take It Back by Kia Abdullah – Blog Tour

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a tense and twisty mystery/thriller that involves sexual assault, immigrants, religion, disparities in wealth, the ever-present blood-thirsty media, drug dependency, physical disabilities, and the inequity of the justice system. It sounds like a lot, and it is, but the author does a fantastic job of weaving it together into a well-written, cogent story that you won’t want to put down.

This is another good book in the Atlee Pine series. There is plenty of action, intrigue and danger. The book is a quick, easy read and a solid mystery.

Consolation (Paul Hirschhausen #3) by Garry Disher

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is an ok mystery set in Australia. The story moves slowly and there are irrelevant storylines that detract from the main mystery. This is the third book in the series, but it’s a stand alone mystery so you can read this book without having read the other two.

Little Cruelties by Liz Nugent

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Ugh. This book was really hard to read and I was so glad when I finished. It’s a depressing mystery/thriller about a dysfunctional family of selfish, narcissistic people. None of the characters had any redeeming qualities.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is another wonderful book by one of my favorite authors. Backman carefully crafts a story that at first seems random, but slowly the people and events weave together into one beautiful tapestry.

A Question of Betrayal (Elena Standish #2) by Anne Perry

This is a good mystery/thriller set in the years just before WWII. In this book Elena is sent to Northern Italy on her first MI6 mission to rescue a contact that has important information regarding future plans of Nazi Germany. His handler is missing and MI6 needs to get the information, and rescue their contact if possible.
