Twenty-One Days (Daniel Pitt, #1) by Anne Perry

twenty one days

4 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good first book in a new series. The author has an older series that involves some of the same characters. I haven’t read those books, but didn’t feel like I missed too much for not having read them. This book is well-written and had likeable characters. Continue reading “Twenty-One Days (Daniel Pitt, #1) by Anne Perry”

Bloodstains with Bronte

3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in this book series. I haven’t read the first book, but didn’t find myself too lost as there were plenty of past references to give context. Emily inherited a fortune and a Victorian mansion from her great aunt in the first book. Emily begins remodeling the mansion into a writer’s retreat, hiring local workers to do the work. Two of the young workers pay too much attention to Emily’s housekeeper, Katie, forcing Emily to fire them. The Wanted (Elvis Cole #17) by Robert Crais

the wanted

This is another good Elvis Cole and Joe Pike novel. Elvis is hired by a single mother to look into cash and jewelry that her teenage son Tyson has in his possession. She suspects that he’s dealing drugs and wants Elvis to intervene. Elvis thinks the case will be easy and only take a couple hours to resolve. What he discovers is that Tyson has two partners and is responsible for a string of high-profile, high-end burglaries. As Elvis continues to investigate, people start turning up dead and Tyson and his burglary partners go missing. Continue reading “The Wanted (Elvis Cole #17) by Robert Crais”

The Awkward Squad by Sophie Haenaff

4.5 stars (release date April 3, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a new police crime series set in Paris centering on disgraced police officer Anne Capestan. She is suspended from duty for shooting and killing a suspect. Fearing that she is about to be fired, Capestan reports to HQ to learn her fate and is surprised by being assigned to run a new unit that will focus on cold cases. The catch? The other team members are a group of misfits, troublemakers and unfit police officers that can’t be fired and no one wants in their unit. Continue reading “The Awkward Squad by Sophie Haenaff”

Anything for Her by G.J. Minett

Anything for her

2.5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ugh. I don’t even know where to start with this book. The premise is promising and the book started out ok, but was just way too slow to hold my attention. Billy goes back to his hometown to visit his ailing sister and runs into his high school sweetheart Aimi. She tells him she wants to fake her death and disappear to escape her abusive husband and his powerful family. With very little thought, Billy agrees to help her and then the story becomes a confusing long drawn out mish-mash. Continue reading “Anything for Her by G.J. Minett”

During all of their missions, Will Robie and Jessica Reel had one constant – Blue Man. So when they both come back from dangerous missions and are told that he is missing, they immediately take action to find him. Their search takes them to his small hometown in rural Colorado. The area is known for it’s beautiful outdoors with plenty of hunting and fishing, as well as several fringe anti-government groups. Death & the Viking’s Daughter (An Auction Block Mystery #4) by Loretta Ross

Death and Viking's daugther

3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This is the fourth book in this series. I haven’t read the first 3 books, but I didn’t feel too lost. The author provides enough backstory for the reader to figure out the history of the main characters. Wren is an auctioneer and her fiancé Death (pronounced Deeth) is a private investigator. They are ready for Death to meet Wren’s parents and settle down in a new house together. The company Wren works for is preparing to auction items from an old supper club in the woods near a Viking reenactment camp. One day they run into an elderly man that nearly dies after he sees what he believes is the ghost of his long-lost daughter. Deja Moo (Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum #1) by Kirsten Weiss

Deja Moo

3.5 stars (release date March 8, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This was a fun, fluffy, quick cozy mystery read. This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but there was enough backstory in the book so that I didn’t feel too lost. Maddie Kosloski runs a paranormal museum in the small town of San Benedetto. Normally her museum is the number one tourist attraction in town. Every Christmas, however, the town puts up a 30 foot straw cow and puts it in the town square – and every year someone sets it on fire.
