The Cookbook Club: A Novel of Food and Friendship by Beth Harbison

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a fun piece of fluff that is a somewhat enjoyable read. It centers around three women, all facing different difficulties, who bond over their love of food. Trista left her life as a lawyer behind (we never find out why) and buys the bar/restaurant she worked at while in law school. It needs a big makeover if she’s ever going to earn a living from it. Margo is a part-time real estate agent who loves to cook and has recently been dumped by her self-absorbed husband. While it’s a blessing in disguise, she must navigate finding a career to support herself with renovating a run-down farm she inherited in the divorce. Aja wants to learn to cook better and is looking for good friends who will support her through an unplanned pregnancy.

Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This is a fun, entertaining mystery/romance that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Finlay is a young mother of two getting divorced from her cheating husband. She’s a struggling mystery/romance author who has writer’s block and is in danger of having to return her meager book advance. She’s in debt up to her eyeballs, her husband is fighting her for custody and she can’t catch a break. A last minute change of plans has her meeting her book agent in a Panera restaurant sitting amongst a lunchtime throng. As she discusses the latest plot of her murder mystery, she senses the woman at the table next to her listening in and eyeing her.

Court of Swans (The Dericott Tales #1) by Melanie Dickerson

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I could not get into this YA Historical Fiction. I didn’t like the writing style. It was too basic and didn’t flow well. I was disappointed because the description of the book really interested me. This is just my opinion, however, and others may enjoy the book.

West End Girls by Jenny Colgan

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a fun contemporary romance that is a quick and easy read. The story follows twins that go to live in their grandmother’s flat in Chelsea with hopes to change their lives.

No Offense (Little Bridge Island, #2) by Meg Cabot

Rating: 2 out of 5.

My overall feeling about this contemporary romance book is a solid “meh”. It’s not the worst I’ve read, but I won’t remember what this book is about in a week. The writing is fine, but the two characters aren’t interesting, the romance is very clunky and the side plots kind of ridiculous.

The Stormbringer (Stormbringer #1) by Isabel Cooper

Rating: 2 out of 5.

I couldn’t get into this fantasy/romance book. The story didn’t interest me. The book goes from one fight scene to another, with little story in between. The writing is clunky and stilted. There is probably an audience for this book, it just wasn’t for me.

Ashwater (Ashwater #1) by Melissa Koberlein

Rating: 3 out of 5.

3. 5 stars

This is a cute, light and fluffy first book in a new YA SciFi series.

Adam is an android that escaped from a biological company and settled down in a nearby town called Ashwater. He’s an android/human hybrid, with a computer processor for a brain, as well as a host of weaponry he can use to eliminate threats. But, he is also just an 18 year old boy that is hungry all the time, likes to play video games and dance, and just got a crush on a girl named Evie.

The Bright and Breaking Sea by Chloe Neill

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I really enjoyed this first book in a new fantasy series. It’s a quick and easy read, and there is plenty of action, magic, fighting, fast ships and has just a hint of romance.
