This is a very fast-paced, action intensive book. Pike Logan and his team are tracking an illegal arms dealer in Tel Aviv. They stumble upon an attempt to kill one of their friends, ex-Israeli agent Shoshana. After thwarting the attempt, they discover that her husband Aaron is missing after conducting an operation looking into a scheme in the Israeli Diamond Exchange. This was a pretty good debut book by this author. Not outstanding, but a solid book. The story begins with a terrible act of violence. Oliver, a handsome, successful children’s book author hits his wife Alice and watches as she cowers on the floor. He dispassionately watches her reaction to his assault, and then leaves the house to get drunk. Hours later he returns to the house and is confronted by Alice with secrets from his past. This is another great Will Robie book. When a mission goes awry, Will is forced to take a step back and try to get his head straight. He needs to figure out if he can continue working for the government. One way to do this is to make peace with his past, which he is reluctant to do. Will is estranged from his father and hasn’t returned to his home town since he left just after high school. When he learns that his father has been arrested for murder, Will returns to his small southern town to confront his past and help his father. This is another great book in this series. Inspector Gamache is just settling into his job as the head of the police department when he discovers that they have lost the war on drugs. Huge cartels are funneling vast quantities of drugs into Canada and the U.S. and the various crimes that flow from the drug traffic has increased. Gamache is at a lost on how to stop it, until he develops a bold plan that will have huge consequences whether he wins of fails. She eventually regains her memories and escapes her captor, only to discover she is a wanted fugitive that has been set up for a double homicide.
