How do you not like a book with a cinnamon roll MMC that projects himself as a boring loser to the girl he’s crushing on, but literally kills people that makes her mad? Rue thinks Hugo is the most boring man alive. He meets her every evening at the mailbox for an awkward conversation that makes her inwardly roll her eyes. But he’s got a dark secret that he never wants her to know about. He hunts down men that abuse women and children and kills them. Turns out, so does she!

This book is dark, grisly, and has several stabby moments. It’s full of feminine rage and girl power that will make you cheer. Hugo and Rue are broken people that have figured out a way to regulate themselves, albeit in a murderous way. It allows them to otherwise live a semi-normal life- until the itch needs to be scratched again. I loved the sweetness between Hugo and Rue and their sexy banter is witty and funny. Their minds are so similar it’s spooky, but that also causes problems that they may not be able to overcome as a couple.

I really enjoyed this book. The middle drags a bit, but once you get past that hump, the action is fast and furious. The book has a satisfying ending with a fun cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next one.

I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from Hambright PR. All opinions are my own.
