Wow! I’m not a big fan of retellings but this book sucked me in right at the beginning and took me on a wild ride! The story starts with the same premise as the original with Dorothy landing in Oz and setting off on the yellow brick road. I listened to the book and I highly recommend you do the same. The full cast narration was incredible and created an immersive experience as I listened.
The story veers away from the original when we discover that Dorothy is nothing like the one in the book. This Dorothy has no issue fighting and has no problem getting down with cute boys. She finds the “scarecrow” and “tinman” and while she initially wouldn’t trust strangers, they go through some stuff and she starts to rely on them. The author did a great job weaving original elements of the story into this book and the twists she incorporated were awesome. The book has lots of action, violence, sex and drama. The ending was kind of predictable – but it still had me gasping when I heard it. I just got the arc of the second book and I can’t wait to dive in!
I received a complimentary audiobook from Macmillan Audio. All opinions are my own.
