End Game

3.5 stars

During all of their missions, Will Robie and Jessica Reel had one constant – Blue Man. So when they both come back from dangerous missions and are told that he is missing, they immediately take action to find him. Their search takes them to his small hometown in rural Colorado. The area is known for it’s beautiful outdoors with plenty of hunting and fishing, as well as several fringe anti-government groups. As Will and Jessica begin to dig into the mystery of Blue Man’s disappearance, they come into contact with several of these groups and once again put their lives in danger for their country. Death & the Viking’s Daughter (An Auction Block Mystery #4) by Loretta Ross

Death and Viking's daugther

3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This is the fourth book in this series. I haven’t read the first 3 books, but I didn’t feel too lost. The author provides enough backstory for the reader to figure out the history of the main characters. Wren is an auctioneer and her fiancé Death (pronounced Deeth) is a private investigator. They are ready for Death to meet Wren’s parents and settle down in a new house together. The company Wren works for is preparing to auction items from an old supper club in the woods near a Viking reenactment camp. One day they run into an elderly man that nearly dies after he sees what he believes is the ghost of his long-lost daughter. Deja Moo (Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum #1) by Kirsten Weiss

Deja Moo

3.5 stars (release date March 8, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This was a fun, fluffy, quick cozy mystery read. This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but there was enough backstory in the book so that I didn’t feel too lost. Maddie Kosloski runs a paranormal museum in the small town of San Benedetto. Normally her museum is the number one tourist attraction in town. Every Christmas, however, the town puts up a 30 foot straw cow and puts it in the town square – and every year someone sets it on fire. The King of Bones and Ashes (Witches of New Orleans #1) by J.D. Horn

king of bones and ashes

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in a trilogy about witches in New Orleans. Magic is failing. Some witches accept this harsh truth, while others scramble doing despicable things to retain their power. Alice Marin was shipped off to an asylum by her family and hasn’t seen them in years. She is finally allowed to return home after a death in the family. Once home, she uses her last bits of magic to investigate other missing witches and occult figures in the community. The more Alice digs, the more information she learns about her troubled family. Glass Houses by Louise Penny

Glass Houses

This is another great book in this series. Inspector Gamache is just settling into his job as the head of the police department when he discovers that they have lost the war on drugs. Huge cartels are funneling vast quantities of drugs into Canada and the U.S. and the various crimes that flow from the drug traffic has increased. Gamache is at a lost on how to stop it, until he develops a bold plan that will have huge consequences whether he wins of fails. He enlists a few trusted people to help with the plan and sets in in place. Continue reading “Glass Houses by Louise Penny”

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

The good daughter

4 stars

This was a good book that kept my attention. Charlotte and Samantha grew up in a small town north of Atlanta. Their mother was highly intelligent and their father was a prominent, albeit disliked attorney that defended some of the worst criminals in the county. When a violent assault shatters the family’s world while the girls are teenagers, it changes their lives forever. Twenty-eight years later another tragedy rocks the small town, causing the family to re-live the nightmare they barely survived the first time. The Rule of Luck (Felicia Sevigny #1) by Catherine Cerveny

The Rule of Luck

3 stars (release date Nov. 7, 2017)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fun, quick SciFi/romance book. Although the book is set in the year 2950, it’s not really a true SciFi book. Other than the futuristic tech stuff which is mentioned in passing and the travel between planets, the book is at it’s heart a romance book. The Breakdown by B.A. Paris

The Breakdown

2.5 stars

This was an ok read. Cass drives through the woods during a storm and sees a woman in a car by the side of the road. Cass isn’t sure if the woman’s car is broken down or in some kind of distress. Not wanting to get out in the pouring rain, she stops and waits to see if the woman asks for help. When she doesn’t she drives off and goes home. The next day she finds out the woman had been murdered. Too afraid to tell the police she saw the woman but didn’t stop to help, guilt starts to eat away at Cass and affect her relationships in her life. To compound the problem, she starts having memory problems and fears she is showing signs of the dementia that killed her mother. Continue reading “The Breakdown by B.A. Paris”
