3 stars (release date June 19, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Finn and Layla are a young couple on holiday in France. They stop at a rest stop and Layla disappears. Was she kidnapped? Was she murdered? Did she run away? No one knows and a body is never found. Twelve years later Finn is living in a small English town engaged to Layla’s sister, Ellen. He begins receiving mysterious emails telling him that Layla is alive. He and Ellen also begin finding Layla’s favorite Russian dolls around the house – a special secret that only Layla, Finn and Ellen know about. The Lost for Words Bookshop: A Novel by Stephanie Butland

The lost for words

4 stars (release date June 19, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is very engaging, the characters interesting and the story compelling. Loveday is a young woman with a painful past that works in a book shop and keeps to herself. She prefers books to people and tattoos the first line of her favorite books all over her body. When a magician/poet worms his way into her life and heart at the same time she receives three mysterious deliveries at the book shop, will Loveday finally confront her past and learn to move on?

This book is a quick read and hard to put down. I highly recommend you read it.

This is another series set in the Banished Lands, but about 100 years after the events in The Faithful and the Fallen book series. Most of the Banished Lands is ruled by the Ben-Elim, the warrior angels that helped fight and banish the Kadoshim. The Fifth To Die (4MK Thriller #2) by J.D. Barker

The fifth the die

4.5 stars (release date 7/10/18)

Holy.Cow. Now that’s what I call a sequel!! This is the second book in the 4MK Thriller book series and it does not disappoint. If you haven’t read the first book The Fourth Monkey you need to read it now so that you’re ready when this book comes out in July. These are some of the best thriller/mystery books I’ve read in the last year. Continue reading “The Fifth To Die (4MK Thriller #2) by J.D. Barker”

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

The Hate u Give

4.5 stars

This is a really, really good book. Despite the page length, it’s a very quick read. The book keeps your attention and you won’t want to put it down. The writing style is conversational and you feel as if you’re a fly on the wall listening to the characters talking. There is a lot of slang and cursing, but it’s not off-putting as it seems true to the characters. The book is very current and thought-provoking. Continue reading “The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas”

End Game (Will Robie, #5) by David Baldacci

During all of their missions, Will Robie and Jessica Reel had one constant – Blue Man. So when they both come back from dangerous missions and are told that he is missing, they immediately take action to find him. Their search takes them to his small hometown in rural Colorado. The area is known for it’s beautiful outdoors with plenty of hunting and fishing, as well as several fringe anti-government groups. As Will and Jessica begin to dig into the mystery of Blue Man’s disappearance, they come into contact with several of these groups and once again put their lives in danger for their country. Front Lines (Front Lines #1) by Michael Grant

front lines

4.5 stars

I really liked this book and had a hard time putting it down. While some people have said that the story is slow, I didn’t find it that way. I think it is well-paced, with plenty of action. The story kept my interest and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series. Continue reading “Front Lines (Front Lines #1) by Michael Grant”

The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld

the child finder

4.5 Stars

I loved this book. It’s both heartbreaking and hopeful. It draws you in and you won’t want to put the book down.

Naomi was once a “lost girl” and managed to escape her captors. Haunted by her past and frustrated with her inability to remember what happened to her, she earns a living as a private investigator tracking down lost and missing children. Her relentless determination in pursuing the children earns her the nickname “The Child Finder”. Continue reading “The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld”

Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders

Lincoln in the Bardo

2 stars

This book had an interesting premise, but ultimately I didn’t find it enjoyable. It’s set in a graveyard the night that Lincoln’s young son Willie is buried. The story takes place in one night and is a series of conversations between ghosts that are trying to encourage Willie to “move on” from the graveyard.
