Death & the Viking’s Daughter (An Auction Block Mystery #4) by Loretta Ross

Death and Viking's daugther

3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This is the fourth book in this series. I haven’t read the first 3 books, but I didn’t feel too lost. The author provides enough backstory for the reader to figure out the history of the main characters. Wren is an auctioneer and her fiancé Death (pronounced Deeth) is a private investigator. They are ready for Death to meet Wren’s parents and settle down in a new house together. The company Wren works for is preparing to auction items from an old supper club in the woods near a Viking reenactment camp. One day they run into an elderly man that nearly dies after he sees what he believes is the ghost of his long-lost daughter. Deja Moo (Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum #1) by Kirsten Weiss

Deja Moo

3.5 stars (release date March 8, 2018)

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This was a fun, fluffy, quick cozy mystery read. This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but there was enough backstory in the book so that I didn’t feel too lost. Maddie Kosloski runs a paranormal museum in the small town of San Benedetto. Normally her museum is the number one tourist attraction in town. Every Christmas, however, the town puts up a 30 foot straw cow and puts it in the town square – and every year someone sets it on fire. The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld

the child finder

4.5 Stars

I loved this book. It’s both heartbreaking and hopeful. It draws you in and you won’t want to put the book down.

Naomi was once a “lost girl” and managed to escape her captors. Haunted by her past and frustrated with her inability to remember what happened to her, she earns a living as a private investigator tracking down lost and missing children. Her relentless determination in pursuing the children earns her the nickname “The Child Finder”. Continue reading “The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld” →

A Mortal Likeness (Victorian Mystery #2) by Larah Joh Rowland

A mortal Likeness

3 stars

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in a series, but is a stand-alone mystery. You don’t have to have read the first book (which I haven’t) to enjoy this book. This was a fairly entertaining murder mystery. Continue reading “A Mortal Likeness (Victorian Mystery #2) by Larah Joh Rowland” →

Operator Down (Pike Logan #12) by Brad Taylor

This is a very fast-paced, action intensive book. Pike Logan and his team are tracking an illegal arms dealer in Tel Aviv. They stumble upon an attempt to kill one of their friends, ex-Israeli agent Shoshana. After thwarting the attempt, they discover that her husband Aaron is missing after conducting an operation looking into a scheme in the Israeli Diamond Exchange. This leads them to uncover a conspiracy to overthrow a democratic government in Africa. Continue reading “Operator Down (Pike Logan #12) by Brad Taylor” →

The Late Shift (Renee Ballard, #1) by Michael Connelly

The late show

4 stars

I really enjoyed this book. This book introduces a new series regular, Det. Renee Ballard. She filed a sexual harassment complaint against a popular Lt. Her partner witnessed the incident, but refused to back her story and the complaint was denied. As punishment, Ballard was transferred out of the prestigious unit and moved to the night shift in Hollywood. There, she starts many investigations, but at the end of her shift has to turn them over to the day shift, never getting to follow through with any of them. Scones and Scoundrels (Highland Bookshop Mystery #2) by Molly MacRae

Scones and Scoundrels

3 stars – released 1-2-18

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series. I haven’t read the first book, but didn’t feel like I missed too many things because of that. There were enough references to the last book to fill in the missing pieces. This was a fun, easy, quick “cozy” mystery read. I’ve only read a couple of these kinds of books so don’t have a large frame of reference, but this book was pretty good.
