Ugh. I don’t even know where to start with this book. The premise is promising and the book started out ok, but was just way too slow to hold my attention. Billy goes back to his hometown to visit his ailing sister and runs into his high school sweetheart Aimi. She tells him she wants to fake her death and disappear to escape her abusive husband and his powerful family. So when they both come back from dangerous missions and are told that he is missing, they immediately take action to find him. Their search takes them to his small hometown in rural Colorado. The area is known for it’s beautiful outdoors with plenty of hunting and fishing, as well as several fringe anti-government groups. As Will and Jessica begin to dig into the mystery of Blue Man’s disappearance, they come into contact with several of these groups and once again put their lives in danger for their country. This is the fourth book in this series. I haven’t read the first 3 books, but I didn’t feel too lost. The author provides enough backstory for the reader to figure out the history of the main characters. Wren is an auctioneer and her fiancé Death (pronounced Deeth) is a private investigator. They are ready for Death to meet Wren’s parents and settle down in a new house together. The company Wren works for is preparing to auction items from an old supper club in the woods near a Viking reenactment camp. One day they run into an elderly man that nearly dies after he sees what he believes is the ghost of his long-lost daughter. This was a fun, fluffy, quick cozy mystery read. This is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but there was enough backstory in the book so that I didn’t feel too lost. Maddie Kosloski runs a paranormal museum in the small town of San Benedetto. Normally her museum is the number one tourist attraction in town. Every Christmas, however, the town puts up a 30 foot straw cow and puts it in the town square – and every year someone sets it on fire. When a message is received from a long-extinct alien race it seems the very thing that could save the planet. Their technology helps un-do some of the earth’s environmental damage, as well as provides energy to power entire cities. Front Lines (Front Lines #1) by Michael Grant

I really liked this book and had a hard time putting it down. While some people have said that the story is slow, I didn’t find it that way. I think it is well-paced, with plenty of action. I loved this book. It’s both heartbreaking and hopeful. It draws you in and you won’t want to put the book down.

Naomi was once a “lost girl” and managed to escape her captors.
